MeshCAM for Cutting 2D

I'm a newbie with MeshCAM but I'd like to use it as an all-in-one CAM for my projects.
I know that MeshCAM is better for 3D cutting but I found this guide and wanted to give this a try with 2D objects.
I'd like to know if it's possible to use the option "cut along x" using a step down parameter like in waterline. Most 2d CAM programs have an option to step down gradually while they cut. In MeshCAM we see this option only in "waterline".
See these images and the differnece with the green lines.
The first one produced using the above guide. (cut along x and waterline).
The second one produced using "roughing" instead of "cut along x".
I don't think that my machine (custom made) is capable of cutting using the first method.
Which is the most appropriate way to cut 2D?
Should I use "roughing" instead of "cut along x" for a 2D part and specify my desired step down in "depth per pass"?
